Newtown Congregational Church, UCC
NCC organizes annual service trips to aid people who are financially or physically challenged and in need housing repair and spiritual uplifting. There are trips for high school students, college students, and adults to various areas of the country.
-High School age service group is ecumenical, which means it involves youth from local churches of varied denominations. The group is called the N.E.W.S (Newtown Ecumenical Workcamp Servants) and it's members are lovingly known as our "workcampers". The service trips are planned to take place for a week during summer vacation. Planning and fundraising for the trip is a year-long process for these youth, but it is all worthwhile when they learn how they can improve the living conditions, the spirits, and even the faith of the people they work for.
-College students and Young Adult trips usually take place in winter and/or spring and involve travel to the UCC Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi.
-Adult trips are taken in the midst of winter, occasionally several trips are taken within one year. The adults' favorite locale is The Back Bay Mission in Biloxi, Mississippi.
All service trips are open to the public, if space is available.
Contact the church office if you are interested in participation in a service trip.
