Our beautiful little community with the motto "Nicer In Newtown" became known around the world after the shocking and horrific shooting on the morning of December 14, 2012. A young man planned and carried out a shooting aspree that killed his mother, 6 Sandy Hook Elementary School adults, 20 children, and eventually himself. In support of each other and in our hope for a more peaceful world, the town now embraces the motto "We Choose Love".
We offer heartfelt thanks to the numerous individuals, organizations, and communities who so compassionately sent, and continue to send generous and abundant outpourings of love! From condolences to prayers to offers of help to numbeous gifts... NCC and the local community have received love from all over the world! We greatly appreciate your putting into action the words of our Lord to "love your neighbor".
And now, as a gesture in remembrance of those lost in Newtown or other places that have been affected by acts of violence, we ask that you reach out to your neighbors in your own backyard. If you are wishing to provide compassion and support to the community of Newtown, please do a service of Compassion and Kindness in your town to honor our lost and our suffering.
"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
1 Corinthians 13:13
