We hope you and your children/ youth are as excited as we are to participate in Small Chapel and the Church Garden (church school)!
Children and youth are important individuals in Newtown Congregational Church and for that reason they begin their Sunday mornings in the Sanctuary to be called to worship with the rest of the congregation. Early in the service, these young people are called up to the altar for the Children’s Message, after which the children are dismissed into Small Chapel.
In Small Chapel an interactive faith-based message that includes worship, prayer, and sing-a-long is experienced. Each individual’s birthday is also recognized. On or near your young ones’ birthday, please send them to church with a coin to represent each year of their age (ie: one coin equals one year; can be a penny, nickel, dime, quarter.).
An offering is taken each week in Small Chapel, just like “big” church. These offerings are used to purchase gifts for children of need in the Newtown area. We also encourage a monthly can or box of a non-perishable food to be given for donation to the Newtown Food Pantry. Instilling in our young people the good feeling of sharing with our neighbors who are in need is a way of showing God’s love. It also helps in learning about “big” church and about the importance of giving.
Following Small Chapel, everyone transitions downstairs to The Garden for church school classes. The classes end at 11:30AM (worship is usually finished by 11:00AM) so that parents and guardians are able to experience some fellowship time prior to the children arriving.
For your convenience, there are several options to register young individuals for the Garden church school:
